Boosting My Immune System: Preparing for Cold and Flu Season

Hello there, fellow moonbeams!

We've all had those seasons when our immune systems seemed to go AWOL, leaving us susceptible to every bug that passed by. Last year, bouts of colds, the flu and a dose of pneumonia left me feeling less than invincible. And it’s an experience I would rather not repeat!

So heading into Autumn and the time of year when colds, flu, and other germs tend to make their grand entrance, I decided this year, things were going to be different! Rather than resigning myself to a season of sniffles, sneezes, and the germs the kids will undoubtedly bring home from school, I set the intention that I would not be getting sick this season, and decided to use what I have in my arsenal of a healing toolbox to supercharge my immune system. In this blog, I'll share my personal experience of how I have boosted my immunity and prepared for the challenges of cold and flu season.

🌿 Nourishing Your Inner Warrior 🌿

One of the fundamental aspects of preparing for the cold and flu season is nourishing your body with the right fuel. Despite my larger frame, I actually hold a wealth of knowledge about foods that nourish body and soul. A nutrient-rich diet has become my ally in this journey. Fresh fruits, colourful veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins are my daily companions. In addition, I have a daily ginger shot which I love! I may even share a recipe at some point!

These foods provide the building blocks our immune systems need to stay strong and healthy. Think of it as fuel for your inner superhero!

💃 Energising with Movement 💃

Moving your body plays a crucial role in immune health. It boosts circulation, helps to release toxins, and reduces stress – all factors that contribute to a healthier immune system.

There are so many reasons why you may recoil at “exercising”, so if you’re like me, and the term exercise can invoke feelings of horror and dread, consider using the term movement instead. Making the commitment to “move my body daily” works much better for me - try it!

Whether it's yoga, dancing, weights, hula-hooping or brisk walks in nature, find a form of exercise that sparks joy and invigorates your mind as well as your immune system.

😴 Prioritising Rest and Stress Management 😴

Ah, sleep and stress – two powerful players in the immune-boosting game - and one that I had definitely neglected last autumn!

Prioritising restorative sleep and stress management techniques like meditation and yoga are essential steps. A well-rested, stress-free body is like a fortress against seasonal bugs.

How? I hear you ask… To quote myself 😜 “Give yourself permission to walk away from anything that gives you bad vibes.” Temporarily or permanently is your call, but know that you do not have to stay in environments or situations that cause you stress. Be sure to take time to rebalance and recharge.

💧 Hydration and the Right Supplements 💧

Staying hydrated is a simple yet often overlooked aspect of immunity health. Drinking plenty of water keeps our bodily systems functioning optimally.
